This iconic brand came to life in 1892 as a complete outfitters to the sporting gentleman. Abercrombie & Fitch was a legendary New York City destination. Their Big Apple flagship store wa an outdoorsman’s emporium with all manner of gear and apparel from rifles to tents, rugged winter hunting coats, waterproof fishing overalls and elegant countrywear that was clubhouse appropriate. The Abercrombie label was seen adorning the finest sportswear of the most discerning Knickerbockers. Their field wristwatches were a must-have too and every well-to-do man-in-the-know was on their catlaogue distribution list. The brand’s revered status, however, did not age well and the A&F label had disappeared into all but obscurity when it was revived in the 1980s and 1990s by Limited Brands who turned the brand into the recognisable mall and high street fashion marque that it is today. No longer made in America, their offer is very much casual fashion in the mall premium category. However, their vintage pieces are highly sought after.
