10x

Established: 1934
Manufacturer: 10-x Manufacturing Company / Walls / Williamson-Dickies / VF Corporation
Headquarters: Des Moines, Iowa, United States 🇺🇸

Keen hunters will be familiar with the 10x brand as an in-house label of Walls applied to technical apparel, particularly camouflage gear. However the history of the 10-x name goes back much further. Established in 1934, 10-x (as the brand’s name was initially styled) was a well-regarded maker of hunting apparel for outdoorsmen and country gentlemen alike. Borrowing heavily from the traditional stylings of American sportswear and British countrywear outfitters, their label could be found in the wardrobes and lockers of many upper class gentlemen across the Northwest and Midwest.

The brand, established by 10-x Manufacturing Company in Des Moines, Iowa, set out to offer “America’s finest sportswear” to the keen hunter. They specialised in outerwear and technical apparel, typical of the era.

Information on the company and brand history is scarce, with company records dating back to 1950 and a notice of dissolution being filed in Iowa in 2007, however it was reported in 2012 that Williamson Dickies had acquired the brand when they acquired Walls Holdings and that, at the time, had looked to relaunch the brand as a premium technical apparel brand for hunters.

Sports jackets and vests are available from time to time through online auction houses (eBay) or Etsy and you might find yourself a rare piece at your local thrift store.
